President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was in Vienna to attend the 67th Regular Session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on 25th September and the commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Atoms for Peace speech by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower on 26th September 2023.
President Akufo-Addo and Ambassador Philbert Johnson paid a courtesy visit to Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Prime Minister Karl Nehammer. President Akufo-Addo and Prime Minister Nehammer held bilateral talks about ways to strengthen Ghana-Austria diplomatic and economic relations. The talks were on the back of discussions by both leaders during Prime Minister Nehammer’s visit to Ghana in April.
President Akufo-Addo was a panel speaker at the event to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the famous Atoms for Peace speech given by President Eisenhower at the U.N. General Assembly in 1953. President Akufo-Addo was joined on the panel by Ms Maja Gojkovic, Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, and Ms Jennifer M. Granholm, Secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy, as well as Susan Eisenhower, the granddaughter of President Eisenhower.
