The Minister of State responsible for Climate Change and Sustainability, Honourable Alhaji Baba Issifu Seidu, together with the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Ghana in Vienna, H.E. Matilda Alomatu Osei-Agyeman, represented Ghana at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Climate Adaptation and Industrial Resilience Forum held at the Vienna International Centre from 18th to 19th February 2026.
At the High-Level Opening, the Honourable Minister delivered a welcome statement titled “A Joint Call to Implement COP30 Adaptation Commitments for Climate-Resilient Industry,” reaffirming Ghana’s commitment, under the leadership of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, to embed climate resilience within national development priorities, including the 24-Hour Economy and the Big Push infrastructure programme.
Ghana highlighted two key institutional priorities: the establishment of a Climate Change and Sustainability Hub as a national centre of excellence for coordination, knowledge and investment, and the rollout of Climate Change and Sustainability Units across Municipal and District Assemblies to strengthen local implementation.
On the margins of the Forum, the Honourable Minister held high-level meetings with Ms. Fatou Haidara, Deputy to the Director General and Managing Director of the Directorate of Global Partnerships and External Relations at UNIDO, H.E. Nikolaus Marschik, Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA) and senior officials of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management. Discussions focused on advancing cooperation on climate adaptation, industrial resilience, resource mobilisation and strengthening Ghana–Austria and Ghana–UNIDO partnerships.
Ghana also contributed to technical discussions under the Forum’s thematic pathways, sharing perspectives on climate intelligence, locally led adaptation and building resilient economic systems.
Ghana’s participation reflects its continued commitment to international cooperation and to translating global climate commitments into practical actions that support sustainable development, economic transformation and resilience.
