A memorable celebration in Vienna with friends of Ghana, the diplomatic community, and our vibrant diaspora. The first of its kind since the Diplomatic Mission was opened.
I was honoured to host members of the Diplomatic Corps, Government Officials, Business Leaders, Academia, Traditional Leaders, the Ghanaian community and friends of Ghana in Vienna on 6th and 7th March, 2026 respectively, to commemorate Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary under the theme “Building Prosperity and Restoring Hope.”
The celebrations began with a well-attended diplomatic reception at the Grand Hotel Vienna, which brought together over 100 distinguished guests, including representatives of the Government of Austria, Ambassadors and Members of the Diplomatic Community, Business Partners, Academia and the Ghanaian Community in Austria. I was particularly honoured to welcome H.E. Regina Rusz, Director-General for International Cultural Affairs at the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, who attended as the Guest of Honour.
In my address, I reflected on Ghana’s historic independence on 6th March, 1957, which inspired liberation movements across Africa and continues to guide Ghana’s enduring commitment to freedom, democracy and development. I also highlighted the Government of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama’s policies and initiatives, including the “Reset Agenda” and the “Accra Reset”, which seek to restore economic stability, strengthen institutions and promote deeper regional integration and African leadership in global affairs.
I further noted the longstanding and cordial relations between Ghana and Austria, which dates back to 1964 and our growing cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, green industrialisation, education, infrastructure, healthcare and waste-to-resource technologies.
In the same spirit, I was pleased to engage with members of the Ghanaian Diaspora in Austria on 7th March, 2026, at a community event organised in collaboration with the Diaspora Union of Ghanaians in Austria (DUGA) at the Vienna University of Technology. A discussion session focused on government policies, diaspora engagement, investment opportunities, consular services and strengthening Ghana–Austria partnerships. I also reiterated President Mahama’s call for Ghanaians abroad to contribute their expertise, investment and global networks to Ghana’s national renewal as valued members of Ghana’s “17th Region.”
My team and I express sincere appreciation to our valued partners and sponsors whose support contributed to the success of the celebrations, including the Ghana International Bank (GHIB) our gold sponsor, Ethiopian Airlines, KONEGG-TEC, Eagle Media London, Kasapreko PLC, Cocoa Marketing Company (GH) LTD and FIMA Industries.
Long Live Ghana!
Long Live Austria!
Long live Ghana-Austria Relations!
