The Ambassador chaired the March meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the first woman from Sub-Saharan Africa to take up this role until September 2025. The meeting was held from 3rd to 7th March, 2025 in Vienna, Austria.
The Chair led the Board to consider matters that promote the Agency’s ideals and to advocate for the accelerated and expanded use of atomic energy to advance peace, health and prosperity globally.
This was done when the Board considered 12 agenda items including those under Nuclear Safety; Nuclear Security; Strengthening the Agency’s activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications; Nuclear verification and Personnel Matters.
The Board of Governors Meeting emphasized the IAEA’s pivotal role in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy, ensuring nuclear safety and security and preventing nuclear proliferation. The Board called for enhanced cooperation among member States to address ongoing challenges and to support the Agency’s mission in fostering peace and development globally.
Ghana hopes to leverage on its role as Chair of the Board until September 2025 to advance the ideals of the IAEA especially in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
