Vienna, Austria – April 3, 2025 – Ghana’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Offices in Vienna, H.E. Alomatu Osei-Agyeman, met with Ms. Aarti Holla-Maini, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), to further discussions on their ongoing collaboration, particularly under the CommonSpace Initiative.
The meeting, held on April 2, 2025, highlighted Ghana’s continued commitment to the initiative, which is being implemented in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat. Key discussions centered on the innovative application of digital twin technology—virtual models that simulate real-world systems—to support Ghana’s development priorities.
Ambassador Osei-Agyeman reaffirmed Ghana’s strong support for the initiative, emphasizing its relevance in addressing pressing national challenges such as coastal erosion, urban planning, disaster preparedness, and climate adaptation. The project’s specific focus on vulnerable areas affected by severe shoreline retreat and flooding was described as both timely and practical.
“Space-based tools like digital twins represent a powerful way to strengthen national resilience,” the Ambassador noted.
Ghana also expressed appreciation for its partnership with UNOOSA, recognizing its role not only in driving national development but also in shaping international best practices for space-enabled development.
