The 2025 Heads of Mission Conference, was convened from 5th September 2025 under the theme “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset Agenda.” This high-level gathering sought to align the work of Ghana’s diplomatic missions with the new government’s vision and priorities, while enhancing coordination between the Ministry, Missions and key agencies.
Translating Ghana’s Reset Agenda in Vienna: The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Ghana in Vienna has made it a priority to ensure that Ghana’s national policies are not abstract documents but living priorities reflected in our diplomacy. Through UNIDO, we push Ghana’s industrialization and SME agenda. Through the IAEA, and Ghana’s leadership’s role as Board Chair of the Agency, with Ambassador Matilda Alomatu Osei-Agyeman at the helm, we advance projects in energy, health and agriculture.
Through UNODC, we keep terrorism, organised crime and prison reform on the agenda.
Through UNOOSA, Ghana has secured a pilot digital twin project for coastal resilience in Accra and Keta.
Through UNCITRAL we continue to reaffirm Ghana’s unwavering commitment to developing and harmonising international trade law. We believe that a fair, transparent, and modern legal framework is indispensable for sustainable global commerce and development, particularly for developing and least developed countries.
Economic Diplomacy in Action: We continue to facilitate strategic collaboration and linkages between Ghanaian and Austrian companies to facilitate trade and investment such as organising virtual investment roundtable events, participation in trade and investment activities to showcase our produce such as COCOBOD cocoa products, shea butter, textiles, artefacts and other local produce like palm oil , prekese, demonstrating how cultural visibility can be converted into trade leads.
Diaspora as Development Partners: Monthly outreach to Ghanaian communities is now an instrument of economic diplomacy. In Graz and Salzburg, we secured leads on tourism linkages, scholarship opportunities for Ghanaian students and diaspora entrepreneurs ready to explore food exports into Austria. We are proving that diaspora engagement, when structured, becomes a bridge for trade, education and investment.
Tourism Promotion: Our strategy is to make the Mission itself a window into Ghana. We are redesigning our reception to showcase tourist attractions, so that every visa applicant encounters Ghana’s tourism brand before even arriving in Ghana. We are also building a social media campaign to consistently highlight Ghana’s destinations.
In each case, the Ghana’s diplomatic Mission in Vienna, with its bilateral and multilateral duality ensures that our country’s voice is heard and our policies are translated into concrete programmes.
